| James Franklyn Potter | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of James Franklyn | ||
| Potter, who died May 19, 2013, at the age of 84; and | ||
| WHEREAS, James Potter was born on May 29, 1928, in Jackson, | ||
| Mississippi; he graduated from Yale University with a degree in | ||
| chemical engineering; following his military service, he earned | ||
| a master of business administration degree; and | ||
| WHEREAS, James served his country in the United States Navy | ||
| during the Korean War; he was a liquid cargo officer aboard the | ||
| USS Manatee; he began his career in petrochemicals at Esso | ||
| Standard Oil Company and went on to work for Borg Warner | ||
| Chemicals; he moved to Fort Worth to join the Western Company and | ||
| served as its purchasing director until the company relocated; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, James was an avid sports fan, a lifelong follower | ||
| of the New York Yankees, and an outstanding bridge player; he | ||
| taught classes at Tarrant County College in the continuing | ||
| education and senior programs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was devoted to his wife, Shirley, and to his | ||
| three children and grandson, and he was a devout Christian and an | ||
| active member of Saint Stephen Presbyterian Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman who was respected in | ||
| the community for his accomplishments, and he was noted for his | ||
| great sense of humor, his vast supply of jokes, and his engaging | ||
| personality; and | ||
| WHEREAS, James Potter gave unselfishly of his time to | ||
| others and was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered | ||
| with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to | ||
| share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
| condolences to the bereaved family of James Franklyn Potter; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of James Potter. | ||
