James Franklyn Potter | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of James Franklyn | ||
Potter, who died May 19, 2013, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, James Potter was born on May 29, 1928, in Jackson, | ||
Mississippi; he graduated from Yale University with a degree in | ||
chemical engineering; following his military service, he earned | ||
a master of business administration degree; and | ||
WHEREAS, James served his country in the United States Navy | ||
during the Korean War; he was a liquid cargo officer aboard the | ||
USS Manatee; he began his career in petrochemicals at Esso | ||
Standard Oil Company and went on to work for Borg Warner | ||
Chemicals; he moved to Fort Worth to join the Western Company and | ||
served as its purchasing director until the company relocated; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, James was an avid sports fan, a lifelong follower | ||
of the New York Yankees, and an outstanding bridge player; he | ||
taught classes at Tarrant County College in the continuing | ||
education and senior programs; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was devoted to his wife, Shirley, and to his | ||
three children and grandson, and he was a devout Christian and an | ||
active member of Saint Stephen Presbyterian Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman who was respected in | ||
the community for his accomplishments, and he was noted for his | ||
great sense of humor, his vast supply of jokes, and his engaging | ||
personality; and | ||
WHEREAS, James Potter gave unselfishly of his time to | ||
others and was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered | ||
with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to | ||
share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of James Franklyn Potter; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of James Potter. | ||
