| Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance, who | ||
| died June 4, 2013, at the age of 73; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Piers Chance was born August 26, 1939, in Epsom, | ||
| England; he came to this country during World War II and grew up | ||
| in Asheville, North Carolina, where he graduated from Lee H. | ||
| Edwards High School and attended the University of North Carolina | ||
| at Asheville; he served the nation with distinction with the | ||
| United States Marine Corps; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He married Carolyn Ann Young in 1965, and the | ||
| couple began their new life together in Texas; they raised a | ||
| daughter, Chelsea Starr, and they were blessed with three | ||
| grandchildren, Joel, Ashley, and Austin; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Chance enjoyed a long and productive career in | ||
| the commercial real estate industry as a broker and certified | ||
| property manager; he worked with a wide variety of companies and | ||
| on a number of high-profile projects, including Equitable Life | ||
| Assurance and One Main Place, Bass Brothers Enterprises and | ||
| Sundance Square, and Lincoln Property Company and the Bank of | ||
| America Corporate Center; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was active in such community organizations as | ||
| the Lions Club and served on the Colleyville City Council and the | ||
| Colleyville Zoning and Planning Board; he was a faithful member | ||
| of Saint Vincent's Cathedral, where he served as a vestry member, | ||
| lay reader, and school board member; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
| gave unselfishly to others, and he was deeply cherished and will | ||
| long be remembered for his winning smile, the happiness he | ||
| brought to others, and the enthusiasm with which he lived each | ||
| day to the fullest; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
| forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
| condolences to the bereaved family of Piers Lawrence Depeyster | ||
| Chance; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Piers Chance. | ||
