Charlotte Han Sharp | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Charlotte Han Sharp, a beloved and | ||
esteemed Texas citizen, who died December 15, 2020, at the age of | ||
67; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Temple, Texas, Charlotte Han was born | ||
to Robert and Millicent Han on August 20, 1953; she grew up in | ||
Austin with her two brothers; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charlotte graduated from The University of Texas | ||
at Austin in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in home | ||
economics; she married John Sharp in 1978, and that same year, he | ||
was elected to the Texas House of Representatives; she was his | ||
close partner in his long career in politics and public service | ||
and in his service as chancellor of The Texas A&M University | ||
System, and she found additional fulfillment in her extensive | ||
philanthropic and humanitarian endeavors; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of great faith and Christian devotion, | ||
Mrs. Sharp was active with the youth of Saint Mary's Catholic | ||
Church in College Station, and she was a cofounder of Saint | ||
Gabriel's Catholic School in Austin; she gave generously of her | ||
time to assist vulnerable women, children, and other community | ||
members in need, and in the 1990s, she worked with United Jewish | ||
Appeal to relocate hundreds of Jewish families from Russia to | ||
Israel; and | ||
WHEREAS, A true force in fund-raising, she helped secure | ||
notable contributions to such organizations as Dell Children's | ||
Medical Center and Texas Children's Hospital, and she raised a | ||
record amount of scholarship funding for Texas A&M University | ||
medical students in her role as honorary chair of the 2015 | ||
Magnolia Tea; she was a member of numerous civic and charitable | ||
organizations, including the Junior Service League in Victoria, | ||
the Junior League of Austin, and the Woman's Club of Bryan; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charlotte and John were blessed with two | ||
children, Spencer and Victoria, and their two granddaughters, | ||
Simone and Freya, were a source of great pride and joy to her; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charlotte Sharp was a woman of grace and | ||
generosity; she inspired her many friends and loved ones through | ||
her strength and selfless civic example, and she leaves behind | ||
memories that will long be treasured by those who were privileged | ||
to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Charlotte Han Sharp; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Charlotte Sharp. | ||
