| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| welcome the visiting delegation from Pearland on the occasion of | ||
| Pearland Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The City of Pearland was established in 1893 and | ||
| named for the fruit trees that were planted to attract land | ||
| buyers to the area; hurricanes and other forms of harsh weather | ||
| decimated the orchards in the initial decades of the city's | ||
| history, however the city began to thrive in 1894 when the | ||
| Southern Homestead Company built the town's first building, a | ||
| railroad station depot that is still standing; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Today, the city boasts a flourishing economy and | ||
| effective school systems; the local chamber of commerce works | ||
| diligently to continue the city's course of successful | ||
| development and helps to keep the citizenry informed on matters | ||
| that affect the community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Residents of Pearland enjoy the benefit of the | ||
| city's proximity to Houston and to Galveston's attractions, while | ||
| cherishing the unique charm of their beloved community; Pearland | ||
| was recognized by the National Civic League in 1999 as an | ||
| All-America City; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Pearland is an outstanding city in which to live, | ||
| work, and raise a family, and citizens can indeed take pride in | ||
| the place they call home; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 2017, as Pearland Day | ||
| at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation best | ||
| wishes for a memorable day in Austin; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special occasion. | ||
