Emily Irene Hamrick Harding | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Emily Irene | ||
Hamrick Harding, who died June 3, 2017, at the age of 93; and | ||
WHEREAS, Irene Hamrick was born on October 2, 1923, in | ||
Ashford, Alabama; she learned the importance of hard work growing | ||
up on her parents' 300-acre farm during the difficult years of | ||
the Great Depression; and | ||
WHEREAS, Irene met Jack Clayton Harding when he was on | ||
leave from his posting in the United States Navy, and they | ||
married in the spring of 1945; they lived in Jack's home state of | ||
Illinois for several years, and they moved to Brownsville in | ||
1961, when Jack accepted the position of general manager of the | ||
shrimp division of Booth Fisheries; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Harding shared 39 years of marriage; | ||
they were blessed with three children, and their four | ||
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren were a source of | ||
immense pride and joy; and | ||
WHEREAS, An active member of her community, Mrs. Harding | ||
was an ardent supporter of the Gladys Porter Zoo and a member of | ||
the Cameron County Republican Women organization; she was a | ||
diehard Chicago Cubs fan who was thrilled to see her team win the | ||
2016 World Series; her stunning bluebonnet garden was twice | ||
highlighted in the Brownsville Herald and earned her the title of | ||
"The Bluebonnet Queen"; she was beloved by many, and she leaves | ||
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were | ||
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Emily Irene Hamrick | ||
Harding; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Irene Harding. | ||
