WHEREAS, A colossal version of I Am Texas, which holds the | ||
Guinness World Record for the largest published book in the | ||
world, is visiting the Texas Capitol on May 2, 2023, as part of | ||
the Lonestar book tour; and | ||
WHEREAS, An ode to Texas from a child's perspective, I Am | ||
Texas contains stories, poetry, and art from 1,000 students in | ||
3rd through 12th grade from more than 80 school districts across | ||
the state; the book is based on the bestselling Ordinary People | ||
Change the World series by author Brad Meltzer and illustrator | ||
Christopher Eliopoulos and was created through a collaboration | ||
between iWRITE Literacy Organization and the Bryan Museum in | ||
Galveston; and | ||
WHEREAS, Spanning 7 by 11 feet and weighing nearly 500 | ||
pounds, this enormous text was officially named the largest | ||
published book in the world by Guinness World Records in Houston | ||
on November 5, 2022; the 2023 book tour also includes stops at the | ||
Alamo, Stark Museum, Schreiner University, and the Dallas | ||
Historical Society; and | ||
WHEREAS, I Am Texas celebrates the story of the Lone Star | ||
State through the eyes of the next generation of Texans, and | ||
those who helped bring this Texas-sized project to fruition are | ||
indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby recognize I Am Texas on being named the | ||
largest published book in the world by Guinness World Records and | ||
commend all those involved in the book's creation. | ||
