WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed | ||
cause for celebration, and Dorothy Doss of Fort Worth reached that | ||
impressive milestone in her life in 2022; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dorothy Doss grew up in Weatherford, and while | ||
working at a bank one summer, she met a young banker named James | ||
Houston Doss Jr., whose family's roots in Parker County dated back | ||
to 1855; the couple were married in the town's Presbyterian Church, | ||
and they shared many years together as leading citizens of | ||
Weatherford; they were blessed with two sons, Jim and John, and a | ||
daughter, Nancy; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Doss family were generous | ||
supporters of Weatherford College, and later in life, Mrs. Doss | ||
played a vital role in the restoration of the church where she and | ||
her husband were married; Mr. Doss passed away in 2000, and in 2006, | ||
the James and Dorothy Doss Heritage and Culture Center opened in | ||
Weatherford; this handsome, 23,000-square-foot museum is dedicated | ||
to celebrating the rich heritage of Parker County through its | ||
collections, exhibitions, and events; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Doss lives in retirement in Fort Worth, | ||
where she delights in the company of her friends and loved ones; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dorothy Doss has witnessed a panorama of change over | ||
the course of a century, and her birthday provides a welcome | ||
opportunity for those who know and love her to share their | ||
appreciation for the service she has rendered to her community and | ||
for the joy she has imparted to others throughout her life; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby congratulate Dorothy Doss on her 100th birthday and extend | ||
to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mrs. Doss as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
Senate. |
