Summary
Allows states to certify additional hospitals as necessary providers of services that may qualify as critical access hospitals (CAHs) under Medicare. Currently, a hospital must have been certified prior to January 1, 2006, in order to qualify as a CAH and accordingly receive special payment under Medicare.
