A BILL to require the Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement to establish a work group to monitor and report on the implementation of a certain regional workforce development and child care initiative in Southwest Virginia.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. The Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development and Advancement shall jointly establish and appoint such members as such departments deem appropriate to a work group to monitor the implementation of the regional workforce development and child care initiative being implemented by the United Way of Southwest Virginia, the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia, Food City, and the Town of Abingdon in Abingdon and in four other locations throughout the surrounding region. Such work group shall monitor the extent to which such initiative achieves its stated goals, including in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, teacher training, and access to child care, and shall report its findings and any associated recommendations for the replication of such initiative in other regions of the Commonwealth to the Chairmen of the House Committee on Commerce and Energy, the House Committee on Education, the House Committee on General Laws, the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor, the Senate Committee on Education and Health, and the Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology no later than November 1, 2025.
