Commending Lafayette High School.

WHEREAS, Lafayette High School, a public secondary school of Williamsburg–James City County Public Schools, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Lafayette High School was the only high school in the Williamsburg–James City County area when it was founded in 1973, bringing life-changing educational resources and opportunities to the region's young people; and

WHEREAS, over the past half-century, Lafayette High School has helped thousands of students by providing them with knowledge and skills that have allowed them to enjoy successful careers and lead meaningful lives; and

WHEREAS, as the Williamsburg area's population grew, Lafayette High School saw many of its students transferred, first to Jamestown High School in 1997 and later to Warhill High School in 2007, though the school's identity and culture has remained unchanged; and

WHEREAS, Lafayette High School has long prided itself on the friendly and inclusive learning environment it provides its students; known as the home of the Rams, the school's mascot today doubly serves as an acronym for the school's guiding principles—"respectable, accountable, motivated, and safe"; and

WHEREAS, alongside its exemplary academics, Lafayette High School supports its students through its top-notch athletic programs, school band, various clubs, and theatre program, offering many students an inspiring outlet for their ambitions and creativity; and

WHEREAS, Lafayette High School boasts a long list of notable alumni across myriad fields and professions, from star athletes of the National Football League and professional musicians to doctors, professors, and veterans; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Lafayette High School would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the teachers and administrators who served at the school over the years and who established a commitment to excellency that endures to this day; and

WHEREAS, students and alumni of Lafayette High School rejoiced in the school's golden jubilee during homecoming events held October 9–13, 2023, which offered all in attendance the chance to reflect on the school's legacy and its enduring impact on the Williamsburg–James City County community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lafayette High School on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the students, alumni, and teachers of Lafayette High School as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the school's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
