WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg has offered high-quality peanuts roasted with traditional methods and other delectable products to local residents and visitors of Colonial Williamsburg; and
WHEREAS, established in 1973, The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg is located in Merchants' Square and offers a wide array of snack mixes, chocolates, sweets, and handcooked Virginia peanuts, the store's flagship product; and
WHEREAS, Virginia peanuts, one of the four main types of peanuts grown in the United States, represent 15 percent of the nation's total peanut production; The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg uses only the highest grade of Virginia peanut, super extra-large, and only three percent of Virginia peanuts meet the shop's rigorous standards; and
WHEREAS, generations of skilled roastmasters at The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg have used time-honored recipes to cook small batches of the finest Virginia peanuts to plump, golden, crunchy perfection; and
WHEREAS, The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg is a charming fixture of local culture, and people from all over the Commonwealth, the United States, and the world, have experienced the store's exquisite products while visiting the region; and
WHEREAS, The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg celebrated its 50th anniversary in July 2023 and offered several products in special commemorative tins; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the shop's contributions to the vibrant local economy and sense of community in Colonial Williamsburg.
