HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 295
Celebrating the life of Agnes Wilder Nicholson.

WHEREAS, Agnes Wilder Nicholson, an esteemed education professional and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and member of the Richmond community, died on May 13, 2023; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Armstrong High School in Richmond in 1941, Agnes Nicholson embarked upon a career contributing to the education of young people as an administrative secretary with Richmond Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Agnes Nicholson later held positions at the former Randolph Middle School and Maymont Elementary School, both in Richmond, where she contributed greatly to the success of her students until her retirement in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Agnes Nicholson's devotion to her community was evident through her active involvement with many local organizations, including the Maymont Civic League and the Richmond chapter of the National Epicureans, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, guided by her deep and abiding faith, Agnes Nicholson was a lifelong member of First African Baptist Church in Richmond, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her community and served on the church's historical commission; and

WHEREAS, preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles, Sr., Agnes Nicholson will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her children, Charles, Jr., and Tracy, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Agnes Wilder Nicholson, a treasured member of the Richmond community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Agnes Wilder Nicholson as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
