Commending Camelot Elementary School.

WHEREAS, for 55 years, Camelot Elementary School, an outstanding public primary school in Fairfax County, has given young people the support they need to become engaged, lifelong learners with the tools and knowledge to achieve success in all their endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Camelot Elementary School traces its roots to 1965 and the design of a 20-classroom school tentatively called Mill Creek Park Elementary School, which was never completed due to lack of funding; and

WHEREAS, a few years later, the design of Mill Creek Park Elementary School, by then known as Camelot Elementary School, was revived and adapted to include open classroom spaces and increase capacity to 900 students; and

WHEREAS, Camelot Elementary School took its name from the nearby Camelot residential area, but the name's association with King Arthur ultimately inspired the school's choice of logo and mascot, the Dragons; and

WHEREAS, construction began in 1968, and Camelot Elementary School officially opened on September 2, 1969, with 574 students led by Beatrice B. Ward as the first principal; and

WHEREAS, the staff and parents of Camelot Elementary School work together to empower students to gain self-awareness, a sense of community, and a passion for learning; and

WHEREAS, Camelot Elementary School offers a rigorous academic curriculum and many opportunities for sports and extracurricular activities, empowering students to achieve their fullest potential in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, the faculty and staff of Camelot Elementary School work diligently with community partners to ensure the academic success and socio-emotional development of all students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Camelot Elementary School on the occasion of its 55th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Camelot Elementary School as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the school's contributions to the Fairfax County community.
