WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team capped an outstanding season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AA/A state championship title; and WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team, which enjoyed a new facility, the Crozet Bubble, in which to practice during the season, lost several seniors from the previous year but soon proved that its talent was deep; and WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team went undefeated in Jefferson District competition, won the Ben Hair Invitational, and captured the Jefferson District and Region II championships; and WHEREAS, at the state championship meet held at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team led the competition under the leadership of senior captains Anna Corley, Katie Sheppard, and Elsa Strickland; and WHEREAS, the powerhouse Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team has won every district and regional swim title in the past four years and its 2012 - 2013 state championship win marked its third consecutive state title; and WHEREAS, all of the team members—Brynn Acker, Alexandra Brown, Lexi Campbell, Anna Corley, Julia Elder, Colleen Higgins, Rebecca Moriconi, Kathryn Poos, Abiah Pritchard, Kristen Richey, Maggie Rossberg, Brazil Rule, Remedy Rule, Savannah Scarbrough, Katie Sheppard, Elsa Strickland, Leanne Tarleton, and Maddy Tegen—contributed to a stellar season; and WHEREAS, the success of the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team is a tribute to the talent and hard work of the team members, the leadership of head coach Diana Bowen and her staff, and the support of the Western Albemarle High School community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team on winning the 2012 - 2013 Virginia High School League Group AA/A state championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Diana Bowen, head coach of the Western Albemarle High School girls' swim and dive team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's outstanding season. |
