HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 270
Commending Aliyah Elliott.

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott, a 12th grade student-athlete at Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield County, was a named a finalist for the 2023 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Foundation's Student-Athlete of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott was honored alongside 15 other student-athletes from across the Commonwealth at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Foundation's 19th annual Student-Athlete Achievement Awards reception and ceremony on February 4, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott is the three-time captain of the L.C. Bird High School girls' basketball team and captain of her Amateur Athletic Union team the Fairfax Stars and has been a standout on the basketball court, earning second and third team all-state honors; and

WHEREAS, a vocal leader and great role model for younger players, Aliyah Elliott strives daily to improve her level of play and basketball knowledge; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott displayed exceptional resilience as she sustained a season ending injury during her sophomore year then returned her junior year and helped lead the L.C. Bird Skyhawks to their second state final in school history; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott has given generously of her time in support of the community as a volunteer at Chesterfield food banks, as a mentor to young girls learning the game of basketball, as a camp counselor for the L.C. Bird Girls Basketball Summer Camp each year, and by serving as a lifeguard for the City of Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott has excelled academically and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Chesterfield County Public Schools Superintendent's All-County Team, a junior marshall, and an honor roll student with a 4.3 grade point average, ranking her in the top five percent of her class; and

WHEREAS, in the fall of 2024, Aliyah Elliott will attend Christopher Newport University, where she will be a member of the Honors Program, President's Leadership Program, and women's basketball team; and

WHEREAS, guided by her faith, Aliyah Elliott enjoys worship and fellowship with her community at Riverview Baptist Church in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Aliyah Elliott has demonstrated extraordinary dedication and determination in her accomplishments on the court, in the classroom, and throughout the community, and is poised to enjoy continued success in college and beyond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Aliyah Elliott hereby be commended for being named a finalist for the 2023 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Foundation's Student-Athlete of the Year award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Aliyah Elliott as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and best wishes in her future endeavors.
