HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 286
Commending the First Colonial High School girls' volleyball team.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 5, 2024
 

WHEREAS, First Colonial High School girls' volleyball team won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship in 2023; and

WHEREAS, in the state final, held at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center, the First Colonial High School Patriots defeated the Riverside High School Rams 3–1; and

WHEREAS, the First Colonial Patriots won the first set 25–17, but the Riverside Rams equalized, taking the second set 22–25; and

WHEREAS, the First Colonial Patriots responded and won the third and fourth sets 25–15 and 27–25 to secure the state crown and finish the season with an impressive 27–1 overall record; and

WHEREAS, senior libero Kayla Foley was named the All-Tidewater Girls Volleyball Player of the Year and the Class 5 Player of the Year, while head coach Edie Magula was named the Class 5 Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the successful season was a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire First Colonial High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the First Colonial High School girls' volleyball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edie Magula, head coach of the First Colonial High School girls' volleyball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements.
