WHEREAS, in 2024, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy enriched the learning process through opportunities for service by conducting a mission trip to Guatemala; and
WHEREAS, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy is an independent Christian school affiliated with EastLake Community Church that serves more than 300 students in kindergarten through 12th grade in Moneta; and
WHEREAS, students, faculty, and staff of Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy traveled to Guatemala in early 2024 to provide support and assistance to the less fortunate while spreading a message of faith and hope; and
WHEREAS, on the six-day mission trip, the participants from Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy spent time with schoolchildren and the elderly, completed educational activities, and conducted home visits to help people in need with a variety of tasks; and
WHEREAS, the participants from Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy also helped with the construction of a new space on the campus of Impacto Ministry, a nonprofit organization founded by Luis and Dinora Martinez that hosts mission teams from around the world; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy hereby be commended for its mission work in Guatemala; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's commitment to serving communities in need.
