HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 347
Commending Andrew Edgerton.

WHEREAS, Andrew Edgerton, chief pilot of the Helicopter Division of the Fairfax County Police Department was presented the Salute to Excellence Law Enforcement Award by Helicopter Association International in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Salute to Excellence Law Enforcement Award, sponsored by aerospace manufacturer MD Helicopters, recognizes individuals or organizations for their extraordinary efforts toward the promotion and advancement of the use of rotorcraft in the support of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, after earning his single-engine land and sea airplane ratings in his early 20s, Andrew Edgerton switched to flying helicopters and soon had commercial, instrument, flight instructor, and instrument instructor ratings; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Edgerton served as a part-time helicopter flight instructor, teaching and mentoring fellow pilots, before taking a full-time helicopter position with a news outlet; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Edgerton joined the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) Helicopter Division in 2010 as a civilian line pilot flying the agency's Bell 407 helicopter; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Edgerton was a member of the FCPD two years later when it became the first law-enforcement agency or air ambulance service in the country to fly Bell 429 helicopters; and

WHEREAS, after serving as the FCPD Helicopter Division's safety officer for seven years, Andrew Edgerton stepped into the role of chief of the unit in 2021, leading its efforts to provide aerial support to Fairfax County's first responders; and

WHEREAS, as chief, Andrew Edgerton played an invaluable role in rebuilding the department's heliport, enhancing the FCPD Helicopter Division's ability to serve the community; and

WHEREAS, through his leadership, dedication, and service, Andrew Edgerton has helped to make Fairfax County a safer place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Andrew Edgerton hereby be commended for receiving the 2024 Salute to Excellence Law Enforcement Award from Helicopter Association International; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andrew Edgerton as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
