WHEREAS, Katelyn Deel, an English teacher at Phoebus High School in Hampton, was announced as the Hampton City Schools citywide Teacher of the Year for 2022–2023 at the meeting of the Hampton School Board on May 4, 2022; and
WHEREAS, a native of Hampton and product of Hampton City Schools, Katelyn Deel earned a bachelor's degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University and fulfilled a lifelong aspiration when she became an educator with Hampton City Schools; and
WHEREAS, Katelyn Deel fosters a learning environment in which her students feel comfortable being themselves, giving them the confidence to tackle challenges and fulfill their ambitions; and
WHEREAS, Katelyn Deel cultivates meaningful relationships with her students and colleagues, supporting them in their endeavors and creating a sense of community at Phoebus High School; and
WHEREAS, with great wisdom and patience, Katelyn Deel invests herself not only in her students' academic achievements, but also in their social and emotional well-being, preparing them for success both in and out of the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Katelyn Deel has advanced a number of initiatives at Phoebus High School by participating in the Community Priorities Workshop, serving as the school building's Teacher Advisory Committee representative, and co-sponsoring the Model United Nations club and the freshman class; and
WHEREAS, Katelyn Deel has embodied the highest ideals of the education profession through her unwavering commitment to her students, earning the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Katelyn Deel hereby be commended for being named the 2022–2023 Hampton City Schools citywide Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Katelyn Deel as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for her contributions to Hampton City Schools and the Commonwealth.
