WHEREAS, April Cage, principal at Garfield Elementary School, was named the Fairfax County Public Schools Outstanding Principal for 2023; and
WHEREAS, April Cage is a champion of all students and dedicated to fulfilling Garfield Elementary School's vision of cultivating and empowering lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, April Cage took the helm of Garfield Elementary School shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic and was a voice of strength and support for students, families, teachers, and staff throughout the unprecedented health crisis; and
WHEREAS, April Cage builds a strong learning community where students feel welcomed by establishing meaningful relationships with students and families and ensuring that the best programs and resources are available to all Garfield Eagles so that they have opportunities to fulfill their potential; and
WHEREAS, April Cage has excelled at working with her teachers to identify their needs, foster a collaborative environment, and establish a strong foundation of trust at Garfield Elementary School that has been integral to the school's success; and
WHEREAS, April Cage's efforts to assist her teachers has inspired them to approach their classes with the confidence and certainty that they can make a difference in each of their students' lives, leading to high teacher retention rates and improved performance throughout the school; and
WHEREAS, April Cage is recognized for her impactful leadership and has been invited to provide professional development opportunities for teachers and school division leaders across Fairfax County Public Schools; she has received numerous accolades, such as the Superintendent's Excellence in Equity Award in 2019 and Fairfax County Public Schools Region 4 Outstanding New Principal award in 2019; and
WHEREAS, April Cage has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience from working in diverse communities to the students and staff of Garfield Elementary School, including serving as principal of Bonnie Brae Elementary School, assistant principal of Riverside Elementary School, and assistant principal of Island Creek Elementary School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That April Cage hereby be commended for being named the 2023 Fairfax County Public Schools Outstanding Principal; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to April Cage as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for her contributions to the Commonwealth.
