WHEREAS, Nathaniel Provencio, principal of Minnieville Elementary School in Woodbridge, was named 2017 Principal of the Year by The Washington Post because he goes above and beyond the day-to-day demands of his position to create an exceptional educational environment; and

WHEREAS, Nathaniel Provencio has been recognized for his work to make Minnieville Elementary School, a Title I school, one of the highest performing schools in Prince William County; and

WHEREAS, Nathaniel Provencio has been able to ensure that his students perform to the best of their ability, as evidenced by his fourth-grade classes achieving a 100 percent Standards of Learning pass rate for history; and

WHEREAS, a highly visible principal who rarely stays in his office and is often greeted by his students with hugs, Nathaniel Provencio has found creative ways to enhance the learning process for his students by utilizing innovative teaching methods and finding nontraditional partnerships for his school and students, including Potomac Pediatric Dentistry, IFAS, LLC, and the Old Dominion (VA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, Nathaniel Provencio has shown exemplary service not only to the students of Minnieville Elementary but to the greater community of Prince William County, always keeping his focus on his students and proving that no barrier is too large for a child to overcome with rigorous support and instruction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Nathaniel Provencio hereby be commended on his selection by The Washington Post as 2017 Principal of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nathaniel Provencio as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration and gratitude for his commitment to the students of Minnieville Elementary School and the Woodbridge community.
