WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School girls' basketball team claimed the third state title in the program's history, winning the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship in March 2018; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School Cavaliers defeated the Hopewell High School Blue Devils by a score of 53 - 45 in the state final at the Siegel Center in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers dominated the Hopewell Blue Devils with man-to-man defense, and sophomore Miette Veldman and junior Scottie Cook combined for 28 rebounds, five more than the entire Hopewell High School lineup; and

WHEREAS, junior Brooklyn Shelton led the game with 21 points, including all of the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers' three-pointers; and

WHEREAS, several members of the Lord Botetourt High School girls' basketball team also play on the volleyball team, which won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship in November 2017; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers' successful season is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the Daleville community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lord Botetourt High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship in 2018; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chuck Pound, head coach of the Lord Botetourt High School girls' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future.
