HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 77
Commending the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 12, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce was established in 2023 to support and empower Black-owned businesses and foster economic prosperity throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce (VABCC) promotes business development and contributes to the stability of the Commonwealth's small business community through advocacy and various service initiatives benefitting its members; and

WHEREAS, the origins of the VABCC date to the launch of the Virginia Black Business Directory (VBBD) in January 2020, an endeavor that offers a comprehensive resource detailing hundreds of Black-owned businesses; and

WHEREAS, following the success of the VBBD, the VABCC was founded by Tracey J. Hall, Ernisha M. Hall and Michelle M. Riddick to create a more structured entity to broaden and further the initiative's objectives; and

WHEREAS, the VABCC achieves its goals by increasing its members' visibility and exposure and fostering valuable networking opportunities, cultivating an environment in the Commonwealth in which businesses can thrive; and

WHEREAS, the VABCC's efforts in the area of education include the launch of its Empowering Black Entrepreneurs Business Accelerator Pilot Program, implemented with the support of GO Virginia and the Department of Housing and Community Development, which is designed to guide and inspire the next generation of Black entrepreneurs and innovators; and

WHEREAS, the VABCC has continued to flourish since its founding and now has the support of more than 1,000 active members, making it one of the largest chambers of commerce devoted to Black businesses in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, by lifting Black businesses and providing them with the resources they need to succeed, the VABCC has made an immeasurable impact on communities across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce hereby be commended for promoting and empowering Black businesses in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's accomplishments.
