WHEREAS, Paul R. Deel, an outstanding police sergeant with the Danville Police Department, received the 2011 American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Police Officer of the Year award; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Deel joined the Danville Police Department in July of 2009 as a member of the Services Division, supervising school resource officers, crime prevention, crossing guards, and fleet management and serving as quartermaster for equipment and uniforms and as a firearms instructor; and WHEREAS, an innovative and resourceful officer, Sergeant Deel inventoried and completely reorganized the department's supply area while implementing a new system for liquidating surplus police equipment; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Deel's unique experience and training have enabled him to greatly contribute to the department's bottom line; and WHEREAS, a former service writer for a local car dealership, Sergeant Deel ensures that vehicle repairs are appropriate, while his expertise in armoring firearms has enabled in-house repairs of firearms; and WHEREAS, respected by his superiors and colleagues for his insight and attention to detail, Sergeant Deel has demonstrated great dedication to his position, working from home when necessary and creating opportunities for the department to save taxpayer money while providing exemplary service; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Deel is an outstanding example of the dedication and integrity that public safety officials in the Commonwealth demonstrate on a daily basis; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates commend Paul R. Deel on his selection as the 2011 American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Police Officer of the Year; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paul R. Deel as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for his commitment to public safety in the City of Danville. |
