SENATE BILL NO. 706 Offered January 21, 2022 A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 46.2-803.2, relating to trucks; operation in certain weather conditions. ---------- Patron-- Marsden ---------- Referred to Committee on Transportation ----------

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-803.2 as follows:

§46.2-803.2. Operation of trucks in certain weather conditions.

A. When driving a truck or truck and trailer or semitrailer combination during active snow, sleet, freezing rain, or other cold inclement precipitation, the operator:

1. Shall drive the vehicle in the right-most lane of any highway having two or more lanes in each direction;

2. Shall not utilize cruise control; and

3. Shall not utilize compression release engine brakes, commonly known as Jake brakes or Jacobs Exhaust Brakes.

B. This section shall not apply to the operation of pickup trucks or panel trucks.
