WHEREAS, Myrtle Bailey is recognized in 2010 for her dedicated service to her community and her fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, Myrtle Bailey is a longtime resident and cherished member of the Williamsburg community and the wise matriarch of her large and loving family; and WHEREAS, Myrtle Bailey married her one and only love, Robert "Bob" Bailey, and the hardworking couple owned and operated the local Sunoco Service Station at the corner of Richmond Road and Bypass Road in Williamsburg; and WHEREAS, the station, a well-known community landmark, attracted thousands of visitors and tourists for the friendly service that could be counted on from Bob and Myrtle Bailey; and WHEREAS, Myrtle and Bob Bailey, known for their excellent customer service and their steadfast dedication to their customers and the community maintained such a clean station that they were awarded a Station of the Year award that included a trip to Mexico; and WHEREAS, after retiring from the station, Myrtle Bailey worked as a bus driver, along with her husband, for the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and then for the Norge Early Education and Development Center, where she still works four days a week as a foster grandmother; and WHEREAS, always ready to help her neighbors in need, Myrtle Bailey has generously volunteered her time and expertise to many civic organizations over the years; and WHEREAS, Myrtle Bailey is most of all a devoted and loving nurturer of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, and there is a first great-great-grandchild on the way; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Myrtle Bailey for her longtime service to her community on the occasion of her 90th birthday; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Myrtle Bailey as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation of her many accomplishments. |
