SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 245
Commending the Honorable Avelina S. Jacob.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Avelina S. Jacob, an esteemed jurist in Northern Virginia, retired as a judge of the 20th Judicial District of Virginia on January 1, 2024; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from The College of William and Mary in Virginia and receiving a law degree from George Mason University, Avelina Jacob was licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Avelina Jacob was appointed as a Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court judge of the 20th Judicial District of Virginia, which encompasses the counties of Fauquier, Loudoun, and Rappahannock; and

WHEREAS, Avelina Jacob presided over the court with great fairness and wisdom and was at times the court's only full-time judge, ably handling a heavy caseload; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure on the bench, which included terms as chief judge, Avelina Jacob served the Commonwealth with the utmost integrity, dedication, distinction, and a good sense of humor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Avelina S. Jacob on the occasion of her retirement as a judge; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Avelina S. Jacob as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her service to the residents of Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth as a whole.
