WHEREAS, Janet Muldoon, longtime chief of staff and senior legislative aide of the Honorable Richard L. Saslaw, greatly served the Commonwealth over her quarter-century at the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, after earning a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Loyola University of Chicago, Janet Muldoon worked as an educator in Illinois before relocating to the Northern Virginia area with her husband in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Janet Muldoon raised her family of five children, became a civic activist, and served in numerous capacities in the community, including as chair of the Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court Advisory Council, as well as chair of the Virginia Public Broadcasting Board; and

WHEREAS, between 1990 and 2006, Janet Muldoon was a founding partner and Corporate Development Officer for Convention Management Group, Inc., overseeing the company's corporate human resource policies, processes, and compliance with best practices while serving as its primary contact within the local business community; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, Janet Muldoon began a 25-year tenure as the chief of staff and senior legislative aide of the Honorable Richard L. Saslaw, former Majority Leader of the Senate of Virginia, greatly assisting him with the management of his office and agenda during legislative sessions, as well as constituent service throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, as chief of staff, Janet Muldoon worked diligently to develop policy expertise and to ensure Senator Saslaw was knowledgeable and apprised of the hundreds of bills introduced at each legislative session, particularly those reviewed by the committees of which he was a member; and

WHEREAS, with deftness and grace, Janet Muldoon facilitated communications between Senator Saslaw and his constituents, fellow legislators, and myriad stakeholders, while also organizing regional hearings and meetings to better connect the senator with community leaders, subject-matter experts, and members of the public; and

WHEREAS, Janet Muldoon oversaw public relations, marketing, and outreach planning and execution for Senator Saslaw's office, playing an invaluable role in his long run of successful reelection campaigns; and

WHEREAS, as a trusted voice within the General Assembly for many years, Janet Muldoon made an immeasurable and lasting impact on the Commonwealth and has earned the respect and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Janet Muldoon, chief of staff and senior legislative aide of the Honorable Richard L. Saslaw, hereby be commended for her legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Janet Muldoon as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's high regard for her contributions to the Commonwealth.
