WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Jack Dixon Peed, Jr., VA VNG, an honorable veteran and distinguished member of the Virginia Air National Guard, has nobly served the country and the Commonwealth for many years; and
WHEREAS, Jack Peed embarked upon his military career as a member of the United States Marine Corps in January 1994, attending boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, and graduating as a private first class in April of the same year; he then honed his skills by completing an aviation electronics mate course in Millington, Tennessee, a light attack helicopter aviation technician course in Camp Pendleton, California, and several other trainings over the years; and
WHEREAS, Jack Peed's assignments during his six-year career with the United States Marine Corps included Marine Aviation & Logistics Squadron 29 of Marine Aircraft Group 29, Marine Expeditionary Unit 26 aboard the USS Nassau, Marine Aviation & Logistics Squadron 16 of Marine Aircraft Group 16 in Tustin, California, and Marine Aviation & Logistics Squadron 39 of Marine Aircraft Group 39 in Camp Pendleton, California; and
WHEREAS, Jack Peed transitioned to the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 2000, serving with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 774 out of Virginia Beach, and a year later enlisted with the Virginia Air National Guard 203rd Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer (RED HORSE) Squadron, also of Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, in November 2006, Jack Peed was deployed to Balad Air Base in Iraq for one year to support Operation Iraqi Freedom as the electrical systems shop non-commissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) with the 557th RED HORSE Squadron; and
WHEREAS, Jack Peed then served for one year beginning in March 2011 as the electrical distribution shop NCOIC with the 809th RED HORSE Squadron at Camp Dwyer in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom; and
WHEREAS, Jack Peed most recently served in 2016 as the electrical systems NCOIC for the 203rd RED HORSE Squadron in Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the United States Marine Corps, Jack Peed obtained the rank of sergeant and was awarded with several medals and commendations, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his service as a member of the Virginia Air National Guard, including his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Jack Peed obtained the rank of master sergeant and was decorated with several additional medals and awards; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Master Sergeant Jack Dixon Peed, Jr., VA VNG, hereby be commended for his dedication to the country and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Master Sergeant Jack Dixon Peed, Jr., VA VNG, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his service.
