SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163
Commending Asha-Jyothi.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Asha-Jyothi, a volunteer-based global nonprofit organization based in Chantilly that is dedicated to supporting the community through health care and education initiatives, has greatly supported the Fairfax County community by donating more than $250,000 to Fairfax County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Asha-Jyothi supported Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) through its Educate-Innovate program, which provides grants for schools to enhance their technology education, particularly by building innovation labs and makerspaces; and

WHEREAS, Asha-Jyothi's Educate-Innovate program cultivates in students the desire and drive to design, experiment, build, and invent, instilling in them the skills and confidence needed to become technology leaders of tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, Asha-Jyothi promotes community interest in and support of technology education for young people through its annual five kilometer walk-run, and the organization matches and distributes thousands of dollars in registration fees for the event to FCPS; and

WHEREAS, in 2018, Asha-Jyothi's Educate-Innovate program gave $106,000 to build the innovation lab at Chantilly High School, offering students access to state-of-the-art 3D printing, audiovisual technology and recording equipment, and more; and

WHEREAS, a year later, Rocky Run Middle School received $60,000 to build a makerspace that features a LEGO wall, a podcasting and recording studio, and a modular workspace with dry erase tabletops and flexible seating; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, Asha-Jyothi donated a total of $18,000 to FCPS, including individual grants to Katherine Johnson Middle School and Little Run Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Asha-Jyothi has shown a steadfast commitment to inspiring and educating  Fairfax County's young people, preparing them for future success in a variety of technology-related fields; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Asha-Jyothi hereby be commended for its legacy of generosity and service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Asha-Jyothi as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to Fairfax County Public Schools and the Commonwealth.
