SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 168
Commending Emily Fox.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Emily Fox, a 25-year-old native of Ashburn and graduate of Stone Bridge High School, was able to pave her way to the United States women's national soccer team at a very young age; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox was first added to the U-20 roster for the women's youth national team in 2015 at the age of 17; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox made her international debut when she was added to the roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship tournament; she was also a pivotal player in both the 2016 and 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup tournaments; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox was recruited by the University of North Carolina and started numerous times for the team after overcoming the adversity of an anterior cruciate ligament tear during her freshman year at Chapel Hill; during her time as a Tar Heel, she was placed on the United States women's national soccer team (USWNT) in 2018; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, Emily Fox was selected by Racing Louisville Football Club as the first overall pick of the 2021 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft, and she would go on to become a finalist for the NWSL Rookie of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, Emily Fox continued her NWSL career with the North Carolina Courage as a pivotal defensive player and, in early January 2024, began her Women's Super League career with the Arsenal Women Football Club, making her debut on the pitch against the Watford Football Club Women; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, Emily Fox was named to the USWNT roster for the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Emily Fox hereby be commended for representing Ashburn during her time playing international soccer for the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Emily Fox as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her achievements in professional soccer.
