SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 526
Commending the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, May 22, 2018
 

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary has supported first responders as they work to serve and safeguard the members of the Manassas community; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad (GMVRS) Auxiliary was established in December 1967 with 12 charter members, including Dorothy Eberly, who is still actively involved in the organization; and

WHEREAS, one of the GMVRS Auxiliary's first projects was to cut muslin sheets into triangles for use as arm slings, and the organization has since held countless fundraisers and functions such as making and selling Christmas ornaments, collecting money at intersections in Manassas, and conducting mail fundraisers; and

WHEREAS, the GMVRS Auxiliary also coordinates rentals of Hutton Hall, offers catering for business meetings and weddings, provides food to on-duty members of the rescue squad, and hosts social events for rescue squad members; and

WHEREAS, several members of the GMVRS Auxiliary have held leadership positions in the Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, and the organization has been active in district projects and meetings as well as state conventions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2017; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's work to support first responders in Manassas.
