SENATE RESOLUTION 15

 

(By Senators Oliverio, Blair (Mr. President), Tarr, Grady, Taylor, Queen, Caputo, and Weld)

[Introduced January 26, 2024]

 

Designating January 29, 2024, as Fairmont State University Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, The State of West Virginia is committed to supporting higher education; and

Whereas, West Virginia’s colleges and universities open the doors of opportunity for West Virginia’s students; and

Whereas, Fairmont State University helps West Virginians achieve their education and career goals, and meet the workforce needs of the State of West Virginia; and

Whereas, Fairmont State University contributes significantly to the state and local economies of West Virginia; and

Whereas, Fairmont State University’s student body is comprised of nearly 90 percent of native West Virginians and more than one-third first-generation students; and

Whereas, Fairmont State University educates students from every county in West Virginia; and

Whereas, Through the commitment of outstanding faculty, staff, students, and administration, Fairmont State University educates citizen-leaders who benefit the entire state; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates January 29, 2024, as Fairmont State University Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Fairmont State University for its contributions to the State of West Virginia; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Dr. Michael Davis.
