SENATE RESOLUTION 23

[Introduced February 1, 2024]
Designating February 2, 2024, as American Heart Association Day at the Legislature.
Whereas, On June 10, 1924, a small group of ground-breaking physicians and social workers met in Chicago, Illinois, to form the American Heart Association with the belief that scientific research could lead the way to better treatment, prevention, and a cure for cardiovascular disease and other heart-related diseases; and
Whereas, From their humble beginnings, the American Heart Association has grown into the nation's oldest and largest volunteer organization that today proudly recognizes the 35 million volunteers and over 2,900 employes that together share a focus on medical research to prevent heart disease along with stroke and other heart-related diseases; and
Whereas, The American Heart Association is a nonprofit organization that educates patients and their families on healthy living environments and fosters appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths that are caused by cardiovascular disease each year; and
Whereas, The American Heart Association, through medical research and educating the public, have reached over 12 million people through guidelines on better nutrition; 19 million patients benefiting from a Quality Care Initiative for high blood pressure; have seen a 15.1 percent reduction in deaths from heart disease; and a 13.6 percent reduction in deaths from stroke; and
Whereas, The American Heart Association in their continuing commitment to the public have invested over $5 billion in research funding and trained over 22 million people in CPR; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby designates February 2, 2024, as American Heart Association Day at the Legislature; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the American Heart Association, Charleston, West Virginia Chapter.
