AN ACT

 

amending Title 15, chapter 7, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-717.01; RELATING to school curriculum.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 15, chapter 7, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-717.01, to read:

START_STATUTE15-717.01.  Instruction on finance

Each school district and charter school that provides instruction to high school pupils shall incorporate finance into the curriculum that includes information on the following:

1.  The management of household living expenses.

2.  Understanding business finance concepts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow.

3.  Automobile financing and financial matters pertaining to other forms of transportation.

4.  Various types of services offered by financial institutions, including debit cards, credit cards, checking accounts and savings accounts.

5.  Retirement planning.  END_STATUTE

Sec. 2.  State board of education; review of comparable instructional programs

The state board of education shall review comparable instructional programs in other states and explore mechanisms to increase instruction on personal and business finance in the classrooms of this state.
