AN ACT

 

Establishing the international affairs study committee.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  International affairs study committee; membership; duties; report; delayed repeal

A.  The international affairs study committee is established consisting of the following members:

1.  The chairperson of the house of representatives state and international affairs committee.  This member shall serve as the cochairperson of the committee.

2.  The chairperson of the senate commerce committee.  This member shall serve as the cochairperson of the committee.

3.  A mayor of a city or town in this state.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall appoint this member.

4.  One public member who represents the business community.  The president of the senate shall appoint this member.

5.  One public member who has expertise in international trade.  The governor shall appoint this member.

6.  One public member who represents a university under the jurisdiction of the Arizona board of regents.  The governor shall appoint this member.

B.  Appointed members serve at the pleasure of the person who made the appointment.

C.  Committee members are not eligible to receive compensation, but may receive reimbursement of expenses under title 38, chapter 4, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes.

D.  The committee shall study strategies to:

1.  Engage this state in international trade.

2.  Make this state competitive in international trade.

3.  Build additional international relationships.

E.  The committee shall submit a report regarding the committee's activities and recommendations for legislative action on or before December 15, 2019 to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.

F.  This section is repealed from and after September 30, 2020.
