RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life of Walter Curtis Butler, Jr., and dedicating a bridge in his memory;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the late Walter Curtis Butler, Jr., diligently served Morgan County as a
commissioner for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler was the first African American elected to serve as a commissioner in
Morgan County; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler was involved in many causes and organizations with the goal of
improving the lives of citizens of Morgan County; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler passed away while serving in office in 2008, and it is only fitting
and proper to dedicate a bridge as a lasting memorial to his
accomplishments.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on
US 441/129 (SR 24) near the intersection of US 278 (SR12-North Main Street
Greensboro Highway), is dedicated as the Walter Curtis Butler, Jr. Memorial
Bridge.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Walter Curtis
Butler, Jr. Memorial Bridge.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the family of
Walter Curtis Butler, Jr., and the Department of Transportation.
