A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Driftwood Garden Club; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Driftwood Garden Club of Newnan, Georgia, held its first meeting in September, 1959, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Potts; and

WHEREAS, in January of 1962, the Driftwood Garden Club was federated as a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc., and the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, the Driftwood Garden Club's purpose is to educate and inspire its members in the area of gardening, to study the cultivation and arranging of flowers, to aid in the beautification of the community, and to protect native trees, plants, and birds; and

WHEREAS, since its creation the Driftwood Garden Club has been involved in numerous activities to enhance the community, most recently organizing planting projects in city parks, planting annual baskets to display around the court square, and maintaining planting areas outside the Center for Performing and Visual Arts; and

WHEREAS, the Driftwood Garden Club is active with conservation projects in the community such as Coweta Clean and Beautiful, recycling programs, and water conservation; and

WHEREAS, the Driftwood Garden Club has also been involved in the education of its members through instructional programs and instructing members on maintaining prosperous gardens at home; and

WHEREAS, a highlight of the Driftwood Garden Club has always been the hospitality of its monthly meetings which reflects a "sweet slice of Southern life" through delicious foods, beautiful tables, and the aromas of nature; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of the Driftwood Garden Club have greatly enhanced the beauty and quality of life in Newnan and Coweta County for 50 years, and in 2009 its members are celebrating its 50 years of service, friendships, and goodwill.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Driftwood Garden Club for its efforts of beautification, conservation, education, and Southern hospitality, congratulate the club and its members on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and extend their most sincere best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Driftwood Garden Club.
