RESOLUTION
Commending
The Links, Incorporated and Southern Area Director Mary Currie and recognizing
March 4, 2009, as Links Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
The Links, Incorporated is a nonprofit organization composed of more than 12,000
women of African heritage who are committed to devoting their talents and
resources to improving the quality of life for others; and
WHEREAS,
founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1946, The Links, Incorporated has 270
chapters nationwide with 14 chapters in Georgia, representing 600 members in
every major city; and
WHEREAS,
Southern Area Director for The Links, Incorporated, Mrs. Mary Currie, has served
the organization for 34 years and her leadership serves as a source of
inspiration for her fellow participants in 12 national assemblies, ten area
conferences, three governance team committees, and two clusters;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Currie has provided guidance as a three-term president at the chapter
level, chairperson of the health and wellness and the arts area level
committees, and co-chairperson of the GALA and planning for the national meeting
committees on the national level; and
WHEREAS,
on March 4, 2009, members of The Links, Incorporated across the country will
gather at their state capitols to encourage support for legislation and programs
designed to address the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and its causes;
and
WHEREAS,
the outstanding service The Links, Incorporated provides to local communities
and throughout the nation is worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend The Links, Incorporated for its work to improve the quality of
life in this state and nation, applaud Southern Area Director Mary Currie for
her outstanding leadership efforts, and recognize March 4, 2009, as Links Day at
the state capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to The Links,
Incorporated and Southern Area Director Mary Currie.
