A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Renfroe Middle School climate change project participants for winning first place at the Georgia Conservancy 2009 Youth Environmental Symposium; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Youth Environmental Symposium (YES) is a state-wide competition, dedicated to developing knowledgeable, dedicated, and interested students who are more aware of environmental issues, that awards grant prizes to the top student-led projects; and

WHEREAS, the Renfroe Middle School participants hosted a Global Warming Action Conference to create awareness in their community of climate change; and

WHEREAS, the team created their own infomercials, performed experiment demonstrations, conducted carbon footprint calculations, and worked all school year on their Aqua Vita IB unit; and

WHEREAS, under the great leadership and guidance of their sponsor teacher, Cindy Tarrant, the amazing work of this incredible team of sixth graders was judged in the final round against ten schools from around this state, eight of which were high school teams; and

WHEREAS, the first place winning team included Annie Grigni, Emily Schuelke, Daysha Wall, Abby DeWeerth, Katie Neil, Noelle Hamilton, Jenna Haynes, Bella Reese, Anna Marianchuk, Grace Kendrick, Malik Dufor, Zoe Laird, Mirina Garoufalidis, MacKenzie Rhone, Rebecca Huh, Katie Lyle, Acacia Scott, Bella Henry, Nylah Richardson, and Ruby Lewis; and

WHEREAS, these innovative and resourceful students demonstrated an incredible degree of knowledge, communication skill, and risk taking tolerance, and they have each brought honor to their families, school, community, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Renfroe Middle School climate change project participants for winning first place at the Georgia Conservancy 2009 Youth Environmental Symposium and extend to them their sincerest best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cindy Tarrant.
