RESOLUTION
Commending
Julia Davis for being selected as a 2011 W.E.B. Du Bois Scholar; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the W.E.B. Du Bois Society has established the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars program
to celebrate and promote outstanding academic accomplishment and to inspire
African American students to aim high no matter their circumstances;
and
WHEREAS,
the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars program annually recognizes and honors some of the
state's most distinguished African American graduating high school seniors;
and
WHEREAS,
the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars program represents excellence in education and the
promise of greatness in young people; and
WHEREAS,
W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars are afforded the opportunity to exchange ideas with
similarly motivated and accomplished peers and to forge friendships that last a
lifetime; and
WHEREAS,
W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars are provided opportunities to search for solutions for
those issues that concern the African American community, America, and the world
and to attend recitals, receptions, and ceremonies held in their honor;
and
WHEREAS,
the Commission on W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars has selected Julia Davis of Carver
Health Sciences and Research to recognize for her mentoring of middle school
students as a Teen Trendsetter; and
WHEREAS,
the great State of Georgia is a champion of academic achievement for all of its
students, and it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize
with particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary
individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that Julia Davis is
commended for her superb achievements and congratulated upon her selection as a
W.E.B. Du Bois Scholar.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Julia Davis.
