A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. William A. Bridges, Jr., and the Cabbagetown Collection Exhibition; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. William A. Bridges, Jr., is a talented photographer whose images evoke emotion and inspiration; and

WHEREAS, as a student the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1975, Mr. Bridges converged on the historic Atlanta community of Cabbagetown in search of willing subjects for his final photography class assignment; and

WHEREAS, Cabbagetown is a historic district listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places which has experienced tremendous growth over the last three decades due to an influx of artists to the area; and

WHEREAS, the historic Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill has been renovated into the nation's largest residential loft community, the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts, and Carroll Street has become home to numerous acclaimed restaurants; and

WHEREAS, after earning an A on his assignment that included images of several Cabbagetown children and graduating from the Institute, Mr. Bridges has had a successful 27 year career as an award-winning photojournalist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; and

WHEREAS, on April 13, 2011, Mr. Bridges will unveil his Cabbagetown Collection at the Agave Restaurant in Atlanta, which includes nine archival silver processed black and white portraits of 11 children from the Cabbagetown community taken 36 years ago.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the amazing career of Mr. William A. Bridges, Jr., and extend to him best wishes on a successful exhibit with his Cabbagetown Collection Exhibition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. William A. Bridges, Jr.
