HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

402

TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE, 2013

H.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that many public housing projects and state low-income housing projects currently allow and have installed clotheslines where there is adequate space and where appropriate.  However, not all of these projects allow the installation of clotheslines.  The legislature believes that the cost-efficiencies and environmental benefits of permitting clotheslines in all public housing projects and state low-income housing projects merit consideration.

The purpose of this Act is to require the Hawaii public housing authority, in conjunction with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, to conduct a study on the feasibility of permitting the installation of clotheslines in all public housing projects and state low-income housing projects in the State.

SECTION 2.  The Hawaii public housing authority, in conjunction with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, shall:

(1)  Conduct a study on the feasibility of installing clotheslines in all public housing projects, as defined in section 356D-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and state low-income housing projects, as defined in section 356D-51, Hawaii Revised Statutes; and

(2)  Submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the regular session of 2014.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
