HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing suzanne marinelli on the occasion of her retirement from the legislative reference bureau's public access room.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI was raised in a tiny coal-mining town deep in the heart of Virginia's Southern Appalachian mountains; and

 

     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI lived for a number of years in Williamsburg, Virginia, the capital of colonial Virginia, and owes her fascination with America's political underpinnings to an early resident of that storied town, Thomas Jefferson, and his contemporaries who became architects of American democracy; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 1984, SUZANNE MARINELLI moved to Kauai, which she considered the center of the universe; and

 

     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI's journey to Honolulu and to a significant role in public service at the State Legislature was facilitated by factors ranging from a sincere interest in governance to a devastating hurricane; and

 

     WHEREAS, after SUZANNE MARINELLI lost her home to Hurricane Iniki in 1992, she moved to Honolulu to take a short-term job with an organization that wanted to establish a presence at the Legislature; and

 

     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI discovered the Legislative Reference Bureau's Public Access Room, where the staff answered her many questions and patiently explained the legislative process; she became fascinated with that process and soon began working part-time in the Public Access Room, and in 2000 she became the Public Access Room Coordinator; and
     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI has enjoyed helping Hawaii residents from all walks of life learn about the Legislature and how to participate in and contribute to their own governance; and

 

     WHEREAS, SUZANNE MARINELLI retired at the end of January 2015, after serving as the Public Access Room Coordinator for nearly 15 years; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that this body hereby congratulates and commends SUZANNE MARINELLI for her dedicated work with the Public Access Room and wishes her continued good health, happiness, and fulfillment throughout her well-deserved retirement.
