Summary

Amends the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Act. Provides that, subject to appropriation, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority shall establish a program to provide grants to law enforcement agencies to equip firearms used in the line of duty by law enforcement officers with laser sights. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, law enforcement officers may not purchase a laser sight purchased under the grant program when the law enforcement officer purchases the officer's service firearm after retirement. Provides that a laser sight purchased under this grant program shall be owned by the law enforcement agency that purchases the laser sight. Provides that an application for a grant shall be made to the Authority. Provides that the form of the application and the information required to be set forth in the application shall be determined by the Authority, and the Authority may require an applicant to submit with the application supporting documents as the Authority deems necessary. Provides that the Authority may adopt rules to implement this program. Effective immediately.
