Summary

County jail standards and inspections. Creates the committee on jail standards (committee) within the criminal justice division of the Indiana criminal justice institute. Transfers, on July 1, 2018: (1) the powers and duties of the department of correction (department); and (2) the department's liabilities, records, property, appropriations, and employees; related to county jail standards and inspections to the committee. Requires the committee to do the following not later than July 1, 2018: (1) Adopt standards regarding the condition of county jails. (2) Conduct periodic jail inspections. Requires, after July 1, 2018, the commission to do the following: (1) Receive reports
