SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Square Dancing as an Indiana tradition.

    Whereas, Square Dancing has been a favored pastime and art form since before statehood. The Square Dance originated in this country after the American Revolution and has flourished in modern Indiana culture;

    Whereas, Square Dancing is a traditional form of family recreation, serving as both a social activity that promotes etiquette and unity, as well as a healthy exercise that is enjoyable by all age groups; and

    Whereas, Square Dancing is an integral part of Indiana heritage which has been influential in our culture: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate recognizes Square Dancing as an Indiana tradition.


    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Charlie Johnson.
