     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1250b.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1250b. (1) A school district, intermediate school

 

district, or public school academy shall ensure that the method of

 

compensation implemented under section 1250 provides for an annual

 

stipend for up to 3 years for a master teacher who mentors a

 

teacher under section 1526. The district or public school academy

 

shall disburse the stipend at the end of each school year in the

 

following amounts:

 

     (a) A stipend of $500.00 for a master teacher who mentored 1

 

teacher in that school year.

 

     (b) A stipend of $1,000.00 for a master teacher who mentored 2

 

teachers in that school year.


     (c) A stipend of $2,000.00 for a master teacher who mentored 3

 

or more teachers in that school year.

 

     (2) If a collective bargaining agreement is in effect for

 

teachers of a school district, intermediate school district, or

 

public school academy as of the effective date of the amendatory

 

act that added this section, and if that collective bargaining

 

agreement prevents compliance with subsection (1), then subsection

 

(1) does not apply to that school district, intermediate school

 

district, or public school academy until after the expiration of

 

that collective bargaining agreement.

 

     (3) Subject to an appropriation, the department shall

 

reimburse a school district, intermediate school district, or

 

public school academy for costs incurred by the school district,

 

intermediate school district, or public school academy under this

 

section.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
