A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. DONIE C. WHITEHEAD UPON THE MOMENTOUS OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, on February 2, 1917, the world was blessed with the birth of Mrs. Donie C. Whitehead, and decades later, upon the auspicious occasion of her 100th birthday, she continues to shower those around her with unconditional love and support; and

     WHEREAS, Donie's love and affection pierced the heart and soul of Mr. Bernard Whitehead, and on May 25, 1935, the duo, raised on adjoining farms, exchanged the bonds of holy matrimony with the words "I do," rivaling the tender, boundless love described in great, romantic literary classics for with their passionate, selfless love for one another for 56 wonderful years, until Mr. Whitehead's untimely passing on March 3, 1991; and

     WHEREAS, born to Cliff and Maggie Chambliss, Mrs. Whitehead has been a lifelong member of Mount Hebron Methodist Church in Winston County, Mississippi, and during her time of fellowship and worship with the membership there, she has taught a Sunday School class and held various other leadership positions; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Whitehead has two daughters, Janice Holton and June Hurt, each of whom she is immensely proud of, and she has six wonderful grandchildren that she enjoys spending time with, as each one is truly the apple of her eye; and

     WHEREAS, a gardener at heart who flourishes with an undeniable zest for life, Mrs. Whitehead has always encouraged each of her children to dream as she perfectly balanced their protection with their independence, and as a result, all of her children and grandchildren have been enriched due to her loving and steady presence in their lives; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her life, Donie has undoubtedly inspired her family and friends, greeting everyone she meets with a million-watt smile that could illuminate even the darkest day, and her children love her tremendously and revere her as the wonderful mother and grandmother she truly is; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor the lives of fine Mississippians who have selflessly dedicated their lives to the betterment of their families and this great Magnolia State:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Donie C. Whitehead upon the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend sincere wishes for her happiness on such a momentous occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Donie C. Whitehead and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
