A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE TED MAYHALL FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Ted Mayhall, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make 2011 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Ted Mayhall began his legislative service in 2004 after defeating the field of candidates vying to represent the citizens of District 40, which is composed of parts of DeSoto County, one of the more populous, fastest-growing areas in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, he has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as a valuable member of the important Agriculture, Conservation and Water Resources, Judiciary B, Judiciary En Banc and Marine Resources Committees; and

     WHEREAS, born March 23, 1939, in Memphis, Tennessee, Representative Ted Mayhall, after graduating from high school, attended the University of Memphis and Northwestern University before enjoying a successful career as a pharmaceutical representative, and today he resides in Southaven, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Legislature, he has developed a reputation as one of the most friendly and humorous members, often lightening the mood in the chamber while serving the interests of his citizens by asking probing questions regarding the measure being debated, and he will be greatly missed by his friends in the State Capitol; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the years, Representative Mayhall has utilized his leadership skills in the community as a member of Horn Lake Masonic Lodge 617, National Rifle Association, Horn Lake Chamber of Commerce, Southaven Chamber of Commerce, and the Civil War Preservation Trust; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Mayhall is of the Methodist faith, and he has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his family:  wife, the former Minnie Melton; children, Cynthia Lynn, William Joshua, Theodore Wayne, and Kelly Mayhall Parsons; and seven grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Ted Mayhall for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Ted Mayhall and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
